This week we talked about Jesus' trial. We compared Jesus' trial to the trials we have in this country. There are certain rules that everyone in the courtroom have to follow. Just like today's justice system, the people in Jesus' day had a protocol they had to follow. But, the men who were angry with Jesus chose not to follow their rules. They tried to sneak around to get their way. They tricked the crowd into choosing to crucify Jesus and setting Barabbas free. Can you imagine?!?!? Jesus had done nothing wrong! He was punished for something he didn't do. What was the real reason he was punished? Our sin. That's right...it was my sin and yours that sent Jesus to his death. He took the blame and punishment for the things we do wrong. Could Jesus have chosen to stay comfortable and refuse the punishment? Could Jesus have defended himself against the Roman soldiers? Of course. He suffered for us because he LOVES us! I can't fathom that God loves me enough to watch his Son die for my sins! Why would Jesus love me enough to suffer such torture for me?!?! I don't have to understand why he did it; I just have to be thankful. I must express my thanks and appreciation by living a life that is pleasing to my heavenly Father. This week, consider what your life would be like without the Easter story.
There are alot of Scripture references for this week:
